Cultivating a Greener Future: Parrish Family Vineyard's Commitment to Sustainability
At Parrish Family Vineyard, sustainability isn't just a buzzword—it's a guiding principle woven into every aspect of our farming, winemaking, and business practices.

We're proud to be a certified member of the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA), a statewide program that encourages wineries and vineyards to adopt environmentally sound, socially responsible, and economically viable practices. For us, sustainability is more than a checklist—it's a way of thinking forward, always asking: How will this impact the next generation?
A Mindful Start: Regenerative Farming and the One Block Challenge
Our journey toward deeper sustainability began with thoughtful decisions in our vineyard practices. We’re excited to be part of the One Block Regenerative Vineyard Association and participate in the One Block Challenge (1BC)—a movement that inspires growers to select a single block and implement regenerative farming practices for one full year. This challenge allows us to compare the health and productivity of regeneratively farmed blocks with traditionally farmed ones, and share the results with our community.
Through this initiative, we've eliminated all synthetic sprays from our program, relying solely on natural and organic products. We've also discontinued the use of herbicides, choosing instead to use mechanical weed removal methods. These changes allow us to foster a healthier, more vibrant soil system—one that can thrive now and continue to support vines for generations to come.

Soil First: Building Health from the Ground Up
We believe healthy soil is the foundation of healthy vines. That’s why we focus heavily on soil health in both our Adelaida and Creston vineyard locations—each with its own unique terroir and tailored farming practices.
To boost carbon levels and improve soil structure, we use rich compost and plant cover crops in every row, maintaining a year-round perennial cover. We practice no-till farming to keep the soil ecosystem intact and thriving. Our approach is not one-size-fits-all—it's an evolving strategy tailored to the land, its needs, and its natural ecosystems.

Smarter Canopy and Water Management
Our vineyard team uses canopy management techniques like shoot thinning and leaf pulling to open up the vine canopy. This reduces the need for sprays by improving airflow and sunlight exposure, naturally mitigating disease pressure.
We’ve also invested in advanced water monitoring systems to track soil moisture, allowing us to minimize irrigation while keeping the vines balanced and healthy. It’s all about achieving harmony—between water use, vine growth, and fruit quality.

Winery Practices: Sustainability in Every Bottle
Our sustainability efforts extend far beyond the vineyard. The winery is powered 100% by solar energy, and we’ve implemented water-saving practices such as low-flow nozzles, steam cleaning, and repurposing water from tank washing. Thanks to these efforts, we use less than 10,000 gallons of water per year—a fraction of the industry average.
We also focus on eco-conscious packaging, including lighter glass bottles, sustainably sourced corks, and recyclable materials. All our pomace—the grape skins, seeds, and stems left after pressing—is composted and returned to the vineyard as fertilizer, closing the loop from grape to glass.

An Educational Approach to Sustainability
Sustainability at Parrish Family Vineyard is not confined to farming or winemaking alone. Through our CSWA certification, we adopt a full-spectrum business strategy that includes solar energy, eco-friendly partnerships, and continuous education for both our team and our guests. We believe that knowledge is power, and the more we all understand about the land, the more we can do to protect it—together.
By looking at every aspect of our operation—from the soil beneath our vines to the cork in the bottle—we aim to create wines that are not only delicious, but also responsibly crafted with the future in mind.

We invite you to join us on this journey. Because when we take care of the earth, it takes care of us—and that’s something worth toasting to.
Cheers
