Christmas Wine & Pairings
Who doesn’t love a wine and food pairing? We do, but let's try a different pairing!

Being a winery, we love wine and food pairings, of course. But let’s change it up and talk about wine and movie pairings! It’s the most wonderful time of year to enjoy heartwarming Christmas movies that remind us of childhood. Give this a try with your friends or family this holiday season!
2024 Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing white wine with an almost effervescent quality. With notes of green apple and honeydew. This movie needs something funny, and how can one not laugh at A Christmas Vacation (1989)? You can watch the chaos of Clark’s holiday (life) and relax with a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc knowing you’re not in his shoes.
2022 Chardonnay is more citrus forward with notes of golden delicious and apple blossoms, but it does have slight oak hints, making it a medium-bodied white. This needs a classic, with a little bit of drama (just a bit). We would recommend the classic White Christmas (1954). This movie has fantastic song and dance routines, but also some elements of drama with the love interests. Oh, my! This is a movie that my husband and I watch every year.
2024 Rosé is our pretty pink wine with notes of dried strawberries, rose petals, citrus curls, and minerality. This one needs romance! The Holiday (2006) and Love Actually (2003) would both offer romance, humor, and heartfelt moments. This might even get you in the mood to do some unplan ned travel to Paso Robles for Christmas in wine country. New Year’s in Paso Robles Wine Country is a joy too!

2019 Silken is our well-known red blend with its smoothness and notes of blueberry, purple flowers, chocolate, and sweet licorice. Since this is our beloved blend, I am going to recommend one of my favorite movies (not just a favorite Christmasy movie), While You Were Sleeping (1995). The movie follows lonely Lucy as she gets involved with a family unexpectedly due to an accident on Christmas. Lucy is welcomed into a family for the first time in a long time. It’s not a well-known flick, but its story, charm, and humor are spot on. I could see settling in with Silken and this movie.
2019 Four Chords is our bolder red blend with notes of boysenberry, coffee, cocoa nibs, with a hint of flint. Full-bodied with a long finish. This blend calls for a classic with soulful depth, A Christmas Carol. There are so many renditions of this Charles Dickens story, from the Muppets to one with Patrick Stewart. It’s hard to pick. During childhood, my family watched the black-and-white 1951 version every Christmas. Alastair Sim makes a great Scrooge. Then there is the 1984 version with George C. Scott, which is a great representation of the story. If you’re not into creepy visiting spirits, try Miracle on 34th Street (1947) with an outstanding cast and charm.
2019 Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc is a dessert wine that needs dessert with it! This could be even warmed and mulled in lieu of apple cider, cocoa, or eggnog. Enjoy this lovely apricot-forward sweet wine with none other than the lighthearted Elf (2003). The only thing is I am not sure if it would pair with spaghetti and syrup like Buddy the Elf enjoys!

2020 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic red wine of ripe black plum, blackberry, sage, dried cherry, vanilla, and baking spices. This was the first pairing I thought of, as it just makes sense. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946). Another classic movie featuring the amazing Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, who has to learn some very hard lessons, but the movie finishes with a great amount of warmth. It’s a story of redemption.
Another more contemporary pairing would be Home Alone (1990), which is another beloved Christmas movie. The John Williams score alone can trigger “Kevin!” in one’s mind, which is why I would say the beloved Cab would also pair nicely with this movie about a kid being left home alone on Christmas.
Hope you enjoyed reading the fun wine and movie pairings! No matter how you enjoy the holidays, we hope you have a beautiful Christmas season with your loved ones. Cheers! - Cecily
